11-Day Western Yunnan Cultural Discovery: Ancient Towns, Sacred Peaks & Highland Wonders
(Note: This itinerary features extensive walking, high altitudes, and rustic terrains; it is not recommended for travelers over 70 or children under 12.)
Day 1: Arrival in Dali & Nanzhao Heritage in Weishan
Morning: Arrival by high-speed train at Dali Railway Station. Your private driver and guide will meet you to begin your cultural expedition.
Afternoon: Drive to Weishan (approx. 1 hour). Ascend Weibaoshan (Mount Weibao), one of China's premier Taoist mountains, hidden amidst ancient pines and tranquil shrines. Afterwards, explore Weishan Ancient City, the historic cradle of the Nanzhao Kingdom, wandering along intact Ming and Qing Dynasty stone streets lined with historic tea shops.

Day 2: Dali Haixi (West Coast) & Sacred Cangshan Mountain
Morning: Drive back to Dali. Dive into local life at the Dali Ancient City North Gate Morning Market, followed by a stop at the Bedouin (Bedsheet Factory) Art District. Head to Jizhao Nunnery on the slopes of Mount Cangshan to admire its lush succulent gardens and savor a traditional Buddhist vegetarian lunch.
Afternoon: Take the Gantong Cableway up Mount Cangshan for sweeping panoramic views (or the Zhonghe Cableway in ideal weather). Later, visit the iconic Three Pagodas of Chongsheng Temple, followed by an evening walk through Dali Ancient City.

Day 3: Around Erhai Lake & Bai Traditions

Day 4: Ancient Tea Horse Road & Grottoes of Shibao Mountain
Morning: Depart Dali for Jianchuan. Explore Shibaoshan (Stone Treasure Mountain), renowned for its red sandstone landforms, wild monkeys, and ancient Buddhist stone grottoes dating back over a thousand years.
Afternoon: Head down to Shaxi Ancient Town, the most intact surviving trading post on the Ancient Tea Horse Road. Cross the historic Yujin Bridge and wander around the Sideng Market Square.

Day 5: Shaxi to Lijiang & Naxi Cultural Exploration
Morning: Transfer to Lijiang. Begin your exploration at Shuhe Ancient Town, a well-preserved ancient village built along crystalline canals, then continue to Baisha Ancient Town, the earliest settlement of the Naxi people, famous for its ancient murals and view of the snow mountain.
Afternoon: Visit Black Dragon Pool Park to capture the classic reflection of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain across the pond. In the evening, immerse yourself in the glowing lanterns and bustling alleys of Lijiang Old Town (Dayan).

Day 6: Majestic Jade Dragon Snow Mountain

Afternoon: Walk through the alpine forest boardwalks of Spruce Meadow (Yunshanping), watch the open-air Impression Lijiang performance staged against the snow peak, and wander along the turquoise terraces of Blue Moon Valley.

Day 7 – Day 8: Route Options (Choose One)
Option A: Mystical Lugu Lake & Mosuo Matriarchy
Day 7: Drive from Lijiang along the Jinsha River valley (approx. 3–4 hours) to Lugu Lake. Visit Daluoshui Village and the local market. Visit an authentic local Mosuo matriarchal family, try traditional handloom weaving, and enjoy an authentic Mosuo family dinner. (Optional: Intangible Cultural Heritage Craft Experience, RMB 599/person).

Day 8: Scenic round-the-lake tour covering the Caohai (Grass Sea) Walking Marriage Bridge, Lover's Beach, a traditional wooden pig-trough boat (Zhuge boat) ride, views of Mount Gemu, and the Rige Peninsula Viewpoint. Drive back to Lijiang in the afternoon.

Option B: Remote Baoshan Stone City & Jinsha River Canyon
Day 7: Depart Lijiang and drive through rugged canyon landscapes along the Jinsha River (approx. 3–4 hours) to Baoshan Stone City, an ancient fortress village built entirely on a giant rock outcrop. Walk through narrow stone lanes, visit Naxi cliff dwellings, and climb up to the beacon tower to overlook the dramatic gorge of the Jinsha River.

Day 8: Take a morning boat cruise along the Jinsha River Gorge from the riverside dock, or relax with tea in a rustic Naxi courtyard and enjoy local farmhouse cuisine before driving back to Lijiang.

Day 9: Tiger Leaping Gorge & White Water Terraces to Shangri-La
Morning: Depart Lijiang for Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the deepest gorges in the world, to feel the thunderous roar of the raging Jinsha River.
Afternoon: Continue up the mountain road to Baishuitai (White Water Terraces), the limestone travertine terraces considered the birthplace of Dongba religion. Arrive in Shangri-La by evening.

Day 10: Tibetan Spirituality & Sacred National Parks
Morning: Visit Songzanlin Monastery ("Little Potala Palace"), the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery complex in Yunnan, set against a serene high-altitude lake.
